As some of you already know, my family and I have been deeply affected by this disease and we would appreciate your support of this terrific fundraising event. I found out that I had Parkinson's Disease just 5 years ago. After watching my father live with and eventually pass from the disease, it is very near and dear to my heart to help find a cure, support others who suffer from PD and raise awareness in our community.
The proceeds of our fundraising effort will be put to good use by The Lower Shore Parkinson's Support Group. A recently established special exercise program, known nationally as "Dance for PD", helps individuals maintain fitness and slow the progression of the disease...while having fun. Monthly meetings are available for the entire group membership and seperately for just the caregivers. Educational presentations by visiting speakers alternate with small group discussions that permit mutual support.
The Group is actively collaborating with MAC, Inc., PRMC and Johns Hopkins to extend "telemedicine" services (medical care via connection to specialists over the Internet) to our region. On April 29 they will join MAC,Inc. to co-sponsor a day long seminar for the general public entitled "PD 101", presented in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Parkinson's Disease & Movement Disorder Center.
